Movie Night!

Within the past three months, the Limitless Learning Initiative has hosted two major events that allowed for a little over $560 to be donated to the Halton Learning Foundation. One of these events was a movie night, in which students at White Oaks Secondary School came in on June 4 to watch Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip! We raised around $150 in our first event!

The event was held after school in the cafeteria. We sold popcorn by the entrance, and it was a huge hit! It led to many students dropping by to purchase some of our popcorn, and some people even bought 9 full bags! Not forgetting to mention that our remaining popcorn in a huge bag was sold after the event!
Being our first fundraiser, the movie night was extremely helpful in giving us feedback. We were able to test the waters of school fundraisers and gain valuable experience that will make future events much better. For example, we learned how essential it is to pick the right theme for an event in order to hold a successful fundraiser. The level of attendance was unexpected as we anticipated more people to show up, so we will strengthen our marketing to generate more interest and understand the demand better. This can be done through more engagement on our social media platforms and encouraging word of mouth.
Another thing we learned was the importance of timing when it comes to events. With summer right around the corner, most students were focused on preparing for their exams. Furthermore, our fundraiser coincided with another popular event at the school and impacted the availability of students. Next time, we’ll hold it during a less busy time like the period before Christmas break, or when easing into a new semester.
